Important Reminders to Avoid Scams

Fraud tactics vary, and scammers quickly create new, deceptive ways to deceive customers. Please remember these important tips before proceeding with any conversation or transaction:

Verify Before You Trust

  • If you receive a message or call claiming to be from Peoples Bank, verify its authenticity by contacting the bank directly using a known, trusted method.
  • Do not use the contact information provided in the suspicious message.
  • Remember, a legitimate Peoples Bank employee will never prevent or talk you out of hanging up.

If you feel pressured to remain on the phone, then it is likely a scam.

Share Information Cautiously

  • If you call Peoples Bank at a known and trusted number, we may ask you various security questions to authenticate the call. This is essential to protect your information and accounts.
  • Remember, when you initiate the call or contact using a known or trusted method, we will work to validate and authenticate the call.
  • In all other situations, DO NOT provide sensitive information or details to a caller.
  • If you are unsure, hang up or stop all communication. Contact the bank using a known, trusted method and start the conversation again.

Peoples Bank will NEVER ask for…

  • A code shared via Text or Email
  • Your User ID for online or mobile Banking
  • Your online or mobile banking password
  • Your PIN

If you are asked for any of these things, hang up. It is a scam.

Be Wary of Urgent Requests

  • Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into making quick decisions. Take your time verifying the legitimacy of the request before taking any action.
  • Again, if you feel pressured to respond or provide information, hang up and contact the bank using a known, trusted method.

Check for Secure Websites

  • When entering sensitive information online, ensure the website is secure. Look for “https://” at the beginning of the URL and a padlock icon in the address bar.

Report Suspicious Activity Immediately

  • If you suspect that you have been targeted by a scam, report it to Peoples Bank immediately. Quick action can prevent further damage and protect your accounts.

If we are not immediately available or if is after hours and…

  • If you provided your online banking credentials, immediately attempt to reset your password by logging in to online banking and resetting your password.
  • If you provided your whole or partial debit card number, call the number on the back of your card and follow the appropriate prompts to notify us of the compromise.

Monitor Your Accounts Regularly

  • Regularly review your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized transactions. Early detection can help prevent further fraudulent activity.
